YogaFio®
I created YogaFio® because I wanted to find a practical way to bring the ancient wisdom of yoga into the field of modern functional movement science. My goal was to create a modality that cultivates health and harmony for the practitioner with a truly holistic sensibility that supports “whole-being well-being” by addressesing body, mind, heart, and soul.
There is a distinct link between the ancient art of yoga and modern movement science. The first line that we have regarding directions on yoga posture work is "Sthiram Sukham Asanam.” This line directs the practitioner to use both steadiness and ease in the yoga practices. Modern Functional Exercise recognizes the importance of cultivating a sense of deep inner core stability which sets the stage for optimal mobility. These two complementary forces work together to cultivate a healthy, harmonious, and empowered state of being — on all levels. When we work to balance the energies of stability and mobility/ease, we set the stage to move through life with grace. We are able to hold our center and we also give ourselves room to move, grow, and evolve in many dimensions.
Beyond the physical aspect of healthy functional movement, YogaFio incorporates traditional mindfulness practice in order to honor and integrate all levels of being. Modern psychology and somatic movement practices acknowledge the fact that our mind and body are an integrated system. When we acknowledge the relationship of our mind (thoughts, feelings, perceptions, and mind-set) with our body, we can work in many dimensions to better integrate and calibrate our whole-self in order to cultivate whole-being health, wellness, and empowerment. As we take better care of ourselves and empowered in our sense of self, we can be better care takers of our relationships and the world around us too.
YogaFio® utilizes both traditional yoga practices and modern scientific developments in the fields of: functional movement, mindfulness, traditional yoga postures and other practices, breath work, meditation, contemplation, journaling, intention and goal setting, modern coaching practices based in psychology, somatics, and energetic balancing and healing work.

What Makes YogaFio® Different?
What makes YogaFio® different from other yoga styles is it's focus on functional movement patterns which build and link together in order to "groove" healthy movement patterns throughout the postures and sequences of every class. YogaFio® is a physically & energetically nourishing practice that can be utilized on it's own or as a complement to other practices and modalities.
The primary movement in YogaFio® classes is not just to "perform" yoga postures or flows but to focus on working with and moving through movement patterns that support a healthy balance through the body's kinetic chain in the yoga postures and flows (when appropriate for the class level). This leads to better body balance and better nervous system balance which allows you to truly de-stress while you improve efficient movement in your body. A core concept for the YogaFio® modality is that when we cultivate harmony and empowerment in our body and mind, it's easier to experience those states in our heart and soul too. And that when we feel better, when we are operating at an optimized level, when we feel good — it's easier to do good in the world too.
YogaFio® offers holistic practices for every level and offers special focus in these progressive areas: Restoration & Regeneration > Optimized Daily Function > Fitness Progressions > Athletic Performance. While physical fitness is a component of (most) classes, it's not the only focus. Emphasis is placed on somatic awareness in all leveled classes in order to better support inner balance, harmony, and a sense of personal empowerment for wherever you find yourself on your life's journey.
Keeping The "Yoga" In Yoga
Traditional yoga philosophy practice provides "tools for living well" in the midst of life's blessings and challenges. One of the most important aspects of a traditional yoga practice is to utilize mindfulness practices in order to learn to master our minds in a way that allows us to hold our focus and direct our energy on that which feels most important on a heart & soul level. So that while there is an emphasis on physical alignment, energetic balance, and functional movement, staying rooted in a heart-centered practice is also a key element for YogaFio® practices so that one can act in the world in a way that cultivates a sense of purpose, personal empowerment, and feelings of peace as we move through our life journey.
